World Baseball Classic
This month the first World Baseball Classic is being held. 16 teams from around the world are competing in an international baseball tournament. Among these teams are the traditional baseball powerhouses like the United States, Japan, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, but there are also countries competing that one would not usually think of as baseball countries. Italy is one of these countries. Italy, one of the two european teams (the other being the Netherlands) was put into a pool with Australia, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. Italy played competitively with these nations, beating Australia 10-0 but losing their other two games. All in all it was a good showing for Italy and showing that baseball is definitely on the rise in the country.
